The Consumer Council

Our principal statutory duty is to promote and safeguard the interests of consumers in Northern Ireland. We have specific statutory duties in relation to energy, postal services, transport, and water and sewerage. These include considering consumer complaints and enquiries, carrying out research and educating and informing consumers.

The Pensions Ombudsman

considers complaints of maladministration by, and disputes of fact or law with, trustees, managers, employers and administrators in relation to pension schemes. Schemes can be "occupational" (i.e. established by an employer), or "personal" (set up by an individual for themselves), and his jurisdiction includes "stakeholder" pensions. In some circumstances he can investigate complaints made by trustees, managers or employers against similar bodies. Complainants should first seek the help of The Pensions Advisory Service (TPAS)- tel. 0300 123 1047.
