Press release
Gibraltar Public Services Ombudsman - term of office
Press Release
Ombudsman Association
The OA is pleased to see that the Gibraltar Government has now put forward a candidate for the position of Gibraltar Public Services Ombudsman, which has been vacant for over a year since Dilip Dayaram Tirathdas' retirement.
Whilst it is a positive development that this crucial office in holding the Gibraltar Government to account will now be filled, it is disappointing that the proposed term of office is only 3 years.
We urge the Gibraltar Government and the Gibraltar Parliament to ensure that the Ombudsman's term of office is a minimum of 5 years in order to comply both with international best practice and our membership criteria regarding independence.
