Reforming Competition and Consumer Policy
Press Release
Ombudsman Association
The Ombudsman Association has responded to the UK Government's consultation on Reforming Competition and Consumer Policy.
Donal Galligan, Chief Executive of the OA, commented, "Adopting a ‘pay-as-you-go’ model and charging a nominal fee to access redress is incompatible with best practice. Whilst we strongly support access to redress being made mandatory, introducing the model proposed in this paper would cause financial pain for businesses without gaining the benefit of the feedback loop that an ombudsman provides, or delivering the strengthened access to redress and increased consumer confidence that is synonymous with the ombudsman model."
